    Hello from China.
    What a long flight over.
    Tus 8:45am Dublin to London
    13:15pm London to Frankford
Met a guy (pat) in Frankford from Ireland going to Beijing as well, to teach English
    17:20pm Frankford to Beijing
11:50pm fly over Moscow at night see the city lit up.
Friday 8:15am get in to Frankford
Met him again at Beijing airport, he then met the guy meant to pick him up we all get in a cab. I have no clue where we are going hoping it is to Beijing city, all I know is I have 6 weeks and no plans. Just have to be in Saigon on the last day of august.
Then the guy asks me to teach English in China, will pay me 3700 RMD a month about 370 quid (two times what a Chinese person with a PHD gets) you can live like a king over hear for that, they pay for your food, house, and bills. All you have to pay for is if you go out. All you have to work is 3 hours a day teaching English.
Staying in a hotel for $18 a night, not one person staying or working in the hotel is from the west. The Chinese people seem to find it weird to see a western out side of tour buss and the “forbidden city”. Wonder what they will think of me down south and west out side of Beijing. Have to start looking for a hostel to stay in for about 50RMB (5 quid)
you can stay and travel around China with out spending mad money but you just can not stay in 5 star places as they cost as much here as in the rest of the world (ie: mad money)
went for a walk looking for a internet café (seems there is just 2 as far as I can find out in a city of 14 mill people ) was out for about 3 hours walking around did not see one person who was not Chinese. Some of them just look, some giggle when they see a western.

Well I will update you all when I find a internet café again not sure when that might be have to wait and see.

I agree - has to be the haircut man wink.gif (that's rich coming from me who hasn't had a hair cut in 4 years).

Isn't China on some sort of campaign to close net cafés beciase they're allowing people to be influenced by Western ideas?

Pretty sure I read that somewhere.

Anyway, have a good time Mike!

    All the best!

Hey Mike. Back from America I am. Good to see you're having a good time over there. Steal me a few Mao Tse Tung official posters will ya!?

There are few experiences to rival wandering about The Forbidden City extremely hungover, with about 3 hours sleep, and suddenly walking out this door to be faced with this montrous picture of Mao Tse Tung looking down upon me at Tianemmen Square.

Aaaaaaah. Never again I tell you, never again.

I'm still bemused at the 'English' versions of Mao's red book. I'm sure Mao would turn in his grave (which incidentally is just on the opposite side of the square). None the less, thanks to the persistent endeavours of a Beijing salesman and the indifference of yours truly, on my bookshelf, in the midst of tomes of UNIX technical manuals, stands proudly one infamous red book.

I strongly recommend checking out Beijing's computer district. If morality permits, there's an extremely active warez market there. CDs sell at about 10Yuan ($1) each (and I'm sure a lot cheaper if you can bargain). Just walk about on the streets, and ppl generally approach ya offering stuff.

Saying that beware Chinese language versions. Some of us can find few uses for a Chinse Version of Visual Studio. My code is cryptic enough as it stands smile.gif
