There is a virtual desktop manager as part of Microsoft's Powertoys XP.

I was looking for this a while ago. There was one I tried ages ago (I think it was the Powertoys one) but it showed all the open applications in the taskbar on every workspace. I want one that will only show the apps open in the current workspace like in Linux. Does the Powertoys one do that?

Must find a downloadable link to this - what I used to use on windows 3.11, unfortunatley it didn't work on '95

    BIGDESK.ZIP 39416 02-03-92 Big Desk - makes desktop bigger - can
switch between different views of the
    desktop.

Investigate the options for FAST USER SWITCHING and the dos command RUNAS , also tick the box for run in separate memory space to keep them a little further away.

    [edit]Found it on http://riverbbs.net/files/output/446.Html

Just for the record, BackMenu and BigDesk are both © Copyright 1991, Ian Heath;[/edit]

[edit2]Iin XP you right click to switch focus to the other desktops, bad news is that it doesn't sit on the taskbar, not bad for a 14 year old app.
