Huge Demand for Rail Travel from Cork and Kerry to Dublin this Weekend (Friday 22nd , Saturday 23rd & Sunday 24th July 2005) for Cork-v-Waterford Hurling Quarter Final.

All-Ireland Hurling Quarter Final in Croke Park.

"customers are being asked to book early and on-line to avoid disappointment. "

This phrase annoys me so much - if there are 800 seats and 900 people who want to travel then even if they all go and try and book on the same day 100 people are going to loose out.

That comment would make more sense if they said that everyone who books before a certain time/date would get a seat and if you wait until after that then its potluck...

First come first served its life, IE have extra trains on and they now have a fairly good online booking system its fair. Diehard GAA fans know the score and keep an eye on the website for details of extra trains and book as soon as tickets become available

And if 1200 people booked before the given date when IE could only provide seats for 800 what then? First 800 at Tralee station get on train, other 400 lynch station staff?

That's my point - there is no sense in saying book early to avoid disappointment because early booking does not guarantee a seat ! Its first-come first-served and being early doesn't make a whole pile of difference if the others are there earlier..

Booking for special trains does guarantee a seat

I think they mean disappointment on the day. And if available supply is booked out, then there is the possibility of arranging for even more trains / busses to be provided.
