When to take the money and run?

In a cash game when you have accumulated more money than the maximun buy-in is there a level at which it most advisable to get up and go?
I have a tendency to hang around for a bit too long when i have gone over two-and-a-half to three times the max buy-in and inevitably loose some of my hard earned stack by misplaying QQ or some sort.
I realise that there is no hard and fast rule but i would be interested to hear the opinions of the board.

You should get up and leave when you think that you can't make any more money. Theoretically that is. As the night goes on you should be aware of the table and how it changes over the hours, the gamblers who are the ones supplying most of your money, might tighten up or might gradually leave, so that you're left playing against the tight/good players.
Obviously if you're tired or whatever it's time to go as you won't be playing your best and your concentration will be gone.

I need to set my alarm for 4:30am. Seems whenever I have built up a decent stack, I really misplay things after that time and go home evens or worse. I've done it 3 times in the last couple months.
