Adding an MP3 'channel' to my TV

I would like to set up some sort of MP3 channel to my TV so that if you switch to AV2 or AV3 it brings up a menu with all the MP3s I have, stored on a HDD somewhere.

I was thinking of using a PC for this and having it connected to the TV and give the TV a decent 5.1 surround sound system.

Then it occured to me that maybe an Xbox with a mod added and running the media center on it might be the solution. It would seem to be a nice combo system (DVD player, Divx player, MP3 storage etc) and have easy TV connectivity.

Question is though, has anyone used the Xbox as a media center?

Is the Xbox DVD player any good?

Would I be better setting up my own system?

I use my XBMC nearly every day. I have it hooked up the my PC and I stream all the files across. Works perfectly, plays every file type I have tried and will do everything you want it to.

The DVD player wouldn't rival a high quality standalone but unless thats what its replacing you won't notice the difference. Just make sure you get a RGB cable for it.
