Hey does/did anyone drink in here. It's on the corner of Marlborough and Abbey Street. Upstairs is called The Flowing Tide and downstairs The Neptune.

I used to drink downstairs biweekly about 6 years ago and I've gradually drank in there less and less. I now go in about twice a year.

The Neptune has all this Grand Prix memorabilia on the falls. It's also got furniture with Crosses on the side. Me and my friends used to joke they robbed them from a skip outside a renovating church.

It seems to be bit of a rockers type pub. Aparently they have a piano bar there on thursday. No idea where they put the "piano" since the pub itsefl is about the size of my parent kitchen. They do have a mp3 juke box which i like.

Anyway, any one familar with this establishment at all?

it used to be a popular music spot back in my bros day, then upstairs became a rocker hang out. I met a mate in there a few times last year. Upstairs there was a few crusty rockers who didnt seem to have realised that everyone had moved on. Twas empty like. dead. deceased.

i also heard it was an IRA hangout, never saw any evidence to suggest this was true.

I seem to remember that downstairs used to be popular for the under 14s  IMO there are probably many many better bars around town

ah the plough loved the christy moore sound alikes too. obviously a Ra pub.

did you notice that Dorans on Marlborough street is either closed down completely or been heavily done up.

the guy that owned it/worked in the bar most often was a knak. used to assist shop lifters etc.

The Neptune bar is no more. The last time I was down that end of town, the place was being rennovated.

pubs like the Flowing Tide should continue to get our support, otherwise Dublin is going to be one big Cafe Insane ... anyone remember Blacks on Talbot Street. Well, it wasn't called Blacks but that's what it was known as ... behind Irish Life, we used to walk up the lane and like a speakeasy, knock on the back door, that led into this hell hole, packed to the hilt! The carpet was real thick, manky, the lighting was sleazy, the loos were best avoided ... the grubbiest place I've ever been, but you couldn't beat the atmosphere .... is this place still around, havn't been down that way in years ...

Ironic that they're shut given the state of the places you've just listed.

this is not true. the flowing tide was rennovated. the neptune is currently open for business. i was in there on tuesday.

Never went into the Neptune much, but I think the Flowing Tide has lost any character it had since it's been renovated. Looks better, but it's just another old-fashioned pub down the drain (bad thing).

A lot of journeyman actors drink in there, what with it being across the road from the Abbey.

I like the smoking section though and also the fact that they have alternative drinks (i.e. not supplied by Diageo).
