I've got GTA: San Andreas but my drive (Samsung SM-352F) can't really read it (I say really because it's inconsistent in what it can and can't read). The DVD works fine on another machine with a different DVD drive. Also, I've had the disc replaced and I still get the same read errors. So the problems with the drive.

But, is it a software issue or a hardware issue, since I can read other DVDs no prob. I've updated my drives firmware with no effect.

    anybody got a diagnosis?

Sounds like a hardware defect a lot of older dvd drives have problems reading certain discs either that ot the laser is worn for the price of a new dvd drive you would be better off replacing it and save yourself the hastle

    Diagnosis: Murder!

I dunno wado, maybe the DVD for San Andreas is Dual Layer and your laser doesnt have a small enough wavelength to read it, although this is probably not the case.

    Did San Andreas work before?

My current (problematic) DVD drive is 10 months old, the drive on my old comp is ~4 years old and it read the GTA:SA DVD without a hitch, so I don't think it's an age issue.

Well done Dirk, any Elec Eng would be proud of that jargon.

    I aim to please.

Please dont compare me to the lowly Elec engineers, we frown upon them :p

Buy a NEC DVD-RW off komplett.ie wado, wont give you a days bother.

Where I work, we send customers software DVDs and everytime I got customers complaining about the fact that they couldn't read a DVD, they had a Samsung DVD Drive... Coincidence?
