So the shortlist for Mercury Music Prize was announced yesterday. As usual, there are some artists on there that I've never heard of!

Who do you think is going to win?

(I wanted to add a poll, but the maximum poll size is 10, and there are 12 nominees)

    Shortlist:

    Anthony and the Johnsons
    Bloc Party
    Coldplay
    Hard-Fi
    Kaiser Chiefs
    KT Tunstall
    Maximo Park
    M.I.A.
    Polar Bear
    Seth Lakeman
    The Go! Team
    The Magic Numbers

Kaiser Chiefs are the favourites at the moment. I would like Antony and the Johnsons to win, but it's pretty unlikely.

Haven't heard many of them but of the ones i heard, i'd like Bloc Party to win it!

Only one's i've heard are: Coldplay, KT Tunstall, Bloc Party, Kaiser Chiefs and a couple of songs by The Magic Numbers and The Go! Team

I can't see this going to anyone but the The Go! Team.
I'd love AATJ to win but the sad fact is he's only there on a technicality, he's as American as they come and I don't think it would go down too well him winning an Award for UK musicians.
Coldplay are too big to win, they dont need the exposure.
Kaisers are too poppy as are the magic numbers.
Bloc Party only have half an album worth of songs good songs.
The others are only there to make it seem like theres some variety.

I'm saying this now, if anyone but The Go! Team wins this award I'll run down Grafton St naked.

have t say... it's easily the least inspiring shortlist i have EVER seen for the mercury prize... i thought it was meant to be for cutting edge music?

The Go! Team are pretty good, they'd get my vote.

mercury music prize has been getting worse by the year. Most people who win it now seem to be 'flavour of the month' band, and judging by that ill stick my neck out and say itll be kaiser chiefs who win it. I dont really care who does win tho tbh

The Go! Team are great, don't think they'll sneak it though. Hard-Fi could be a good outside bet. Great album, stands up well to lotsa repeat listening!

Btw Mr. Rivers - Nada Suft are playing The Village, Sept 6th if you haven't seen it yet.

New album "The Weight is a Gift" is out around the same time I thinks.

    From Billboard.com
"Produced by Death Cab For Cutie guitarist Chris Walla, "The Weight Is a Gift" is the follow-up to 2003's "Let Go," which debuted at No. 31 on Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart.

A limited-edition first pressing will feature a bonus disc with the previously unreleased song "From the Rooftop Down," an early version of opener "Concrete Bed," a duet with Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter Leanne Smith on "Fools" and a cover of Francoise Hardy's "Au Fond du Reve Dore."

If The Kaiser Chiefs win it then I will personally hunt down and kill everyone of the judges.

The Kaiser Chiefs were cloned from the DNA of a second rate Blur cover band in 1994 and were artificially grown in test-tubes until they were accidentally released into the wild recently.

There are the musical equivalant of a **** taken after a week long tequila binge - it's hugely offensive to all the senses and has no merit whatsoever!

Ever since The Futureheads' omission from the high profile awards ceremonies, I've learned to hate them even more.
