Ok I am in a bit of a pickle I would like to know how the customs and excise duties work for importing from America. I am importing 4 packages separately around 100 euro each . I know GLS used to deliver all US goods but its An Post whom of which delivers now so what I'd like know how much roughly will I have to pay per package.

    Regards Willem D

I think you have top pay 21% tax on the cost of each package+shipping.

ive ordered about 2 packages EMS from americia and didnt get charged by customs, one of the parcels was a gps navigator, which would be easily double the price here. Chance it i say but just incase be ready to pay up if you have to

Probably nothing.... Dont say anything unless you get a bill AFAIK you're allowed up to €200 tax free.

Ya you see I was very unsure about the whole process, a mate down the road from me works for An Post and he says a lot of the stuff gets through lately without been charged.

Depends on whether Customs spot pacakages coming through, more than likely they will be delivered to you by An Post without any problem, if grabbed by customs you will be hit for 21% customs vat on cost of product plus shipping charges, majority of computer goods are 0% rated for duty. Anything over a value of approx €30.00 will be liable for customs vat

I think if you use FedEx you're more likely to be stung for VAT @ 21%.
    Use UPS maybe.

    My experience anyway.

just be happy their not using GLS anymore!

anything over 30 is liable, depends what the sender declared the value for and whether they marked in as merchandise/sample or gift.

I only got dont once, by GLS, the rest of the times they just let it through!

good luck anyway, youll get a phonecall or a letter if your stung
