Posted this before but never got a solution i have an old fujitsu siemens laptop running windows 2000 that wont let me logon to windows.Turn on the laptop and the screen stays blue for half an hour then asks for username and password after the username and password are given it waits about 5 mins then a box appears saying The system cannot log you on now because the domain (computer name)is not available.Any help with this would be appreciated.

Depends on your level of computer knowledge.

Personially I would remove the 2.5" HDD and make a bachup of its contens...format it and reinstall windows...later moving over required files.

It may appear the rough solution...but believe me other methods require password breaking tools that you probable dont have access to(Winternals Locksmith being one supplied with their Administrator's Pak).

I don't know win 2000 very well, but it sounds like it is trying to log the laptop onto a network, and is finding nothing. When you log on, is there a drop down bar giving you options on what to log on too, like other servers?

did u buy the laptop second hand...sounds like it was on a network and its not on that network anymore...try EL WOGs suggestion that'd be the 1st port of call and lets us know how u get on :)

Yeah i bought it second hand. When i click the options box it only gives the option to shutdown, standby or restart.

Did you get any media with it? ie restore CD?

Do as I said above "ibanez"...format and start with a fresh OS install to shape as you wish.
It would only take a couple of hours!

Can you log onto the local machine. If so check your ip configuration/dns settings. Also event viewer. If you can't, something screwed up with the OS and maybe a reinstall.

If its trying to connect to a domain to which you are no longer a member of or have lost connectivity to it, it will take ages on boot up.

To change this, Go into system properties

    Network identification, Click properties

A new window will open, check workgroup and put HOME in there. Click ok, it will ask you to reboot. Reboot and see how long it takes to login now.

    I agree with Zuma.
    2 options.
1/ backup hard disk, format & start again or 2/crack the admin password & log in (us ntfs boot disk & lophtcrack)

Even if you mange to login with admin rights, the laptop will have all sorts of stuff on it that may hinder it's performance. I recommend format & start again (should only take 40mins or so).
