The latest official figures for "Serious Crime" were released late yesterday and show a small decrease overall. Murder though saw a one third leap up with gangland killings. The overall crime rate shows 25 per thousand of the population compares well to France 62.42 per 1000 people, in Netherlands 81 per 1000 and England/Wales 125 per 1000. (from nationmaster most figuers from 2000).

However that did'nt stop Labours Joe Costello saying that Dublin was
"more akin to downtown Bogota than a modern European capital, such is the extent of gangland murder, assaults and violent crime.

While Columbias overall crimes per 1000 rate is very low at about 5, Bogata makes Darndale took quiet (I'm told).

    Mike.
