Getting sky installed in two weeks and have purchased a quad lnb off ebay. What I want know will he attach it instead of the single lnb. Whats the reason for them installing the dishes on the walls instead of chimneys (bungalow) as it would be easier as there is cable there already from chorus aerial.

It is better to to mount a dish on a wall than a chimney because a chimney can be unstable, Although with the new mini-dish being of a mesh type material the wind just blows through it. I have know of the early 80cms dish to have actually stucturally undermined a chimney once. I actually made the chimneny go crooked. That basically why they do it. Also a dish on the chimney like an aerial increases your chance of being hit by lightening ! I'm sure the sky guy will install your quad-lnb instead of the normal one. He will probably keep the normal lnb though. I hes hesitant try bribe him with a fiver for a pint and butter him all up suggest holding the ladder etc. and i'm sure he will oblige.

does the cable have to be the one length from dish to box as there is one break in it. Im sure an F-type coupler is okay?

Yes, ideally it would be best if it was one length. You can join two lengths of wire but you have to make sure they're impedance matched otherwise you could damage your Digibox / LNB.

Its not ideal as it may let water in and degrade over time

He may well WANT to use the Chorus cable,
but you would be better off asking him to run new cable as the stuff Chorus use for MMDS installations is pretty cr~p.

The wind does NOT blow through Mesh Dish. It is to lower cost in Manufacture and Shipping. They rust prematurely cmpared with solid. At some angles the wind loading is higher as the surface is rougher.

To an extent the wind slightly blows through larger mesh MMDS dish.

The Chorus & NTL cables is cable TV quality. It is nt even good fr TG4 n Ch68 (apprx 840MHz). The MMDS is 2.5GHz but Cable TV is 50MHz to 470MHz and MMDS downlead is either 180MHz to 430MHz or UHF.

TOTALLY unsuited t the 750MHz to 2200MHz of LNB to Sat bx feed.
