BT in the UK has increased the speed of their standard package (entry level) broadband to 2mb (from 1mb) for everyone, while keeping the price the same (£17.99 or ~€26).

However they do enforce a strict 1GB cap on this.

    Waste of time!!!

Users who stay under a 1GB monthly CAP will never notice the increased speed.
It wont be long before 8Mb is introduced by BT...why cant BT Ireland then introduce 8Mb in its 40 LLU exchanges or is the cosy arrangement with eircom too nice???

Before that mess with LLU, cooked up and served by our gorgeous regulator in conjunction with Eircom, is sorted out it makes no sense for BT to start offering anything with mass appeal on their unbundled exchanges. SMART are in severe pains as a result of having fallen for Eircom's empty promise that the LLU process would be sorted amicably, and of having fallen for ComReg's preposterous rhetoric that they had solved the LLU process years ago.

Yeah...it make me want to vomit as well!!!

    eircomtribunal,
Could you guess an estimated time before the current court battles between Smart & eircom will finish in the courts or will it be a never ending fiasco?

Anyone know what upload speeds do BT guarantee on these products in the UK?

Has upload been increased in tandem with download?

2.2M/288k is what all their products will be at now it appears.
The upload has always been 288k.

Instead of multiples of 256k, the British used multiples of 288k to get a closer speed in real world conditions to 0.25/0.5/1/2Mbits...etc.

When the 8Mb connection is rolled out in November it will have a 400k upload AFAIK.
