Probably not the safest place to go... but you cannot live with your head in the sand. My bro was there a year or two and it was fine.

    Hey Powerhouse,
I'm booked for Gumbet flying out on the 14th :D
I'm sure it's probably never been safer ...I'm not cancelling my holiday..
    So hopefully see ya there.

Also just for added safety i'll probably take cabs as apposed to buses and i'm also travelling with my GF.

When we were in Kusadasi 9yrs ago, we always took cabs...they were dirt cheap and if you can get the same guy at the rank nearby to shuttle you in & out every time, you can get a good deal.

My self and my gf were supposed to go the 3rd August. We cancelled and now we're going to Playa de Ingles, Gran Canaria. My gf was scared and if we went over there we would be paranoid all the time. We agreed that forking out for a holiday is not worth the paranoia etc.

Hope ye all have a great time anyways, Im sure everything will work out fine.

question to ask her is would she go to London?

If she would with out hesitation but wouldn't go to Turkey because of the bombings there then it is slightly irrational.

if netiher then just change the destination

From Department of Foreign Affairs website.

    Turkey (updated 19/07/05)
In the wake of the terrorist attack in the Western Turkish resort of Kusadasi on Saturday 16 July, which killed five people including an Irish national, the Department of Foreign Affairs has reviewed its travel advice for Turkey .

The threat from terrorism in Turkey remains high and the frequency of attacks by terrorist groups has increased in the last year. Such attacks are, by their nature, random and indiscriminate and cannot be predicted in advance. Irish citizens should take this into account in considering travel to Turkey .

Those who travel there are reminded of the need to exercise the utmost vigilance and caution, particularly in public places that are frequented by foreigners.

Ye will love Gumbet,I had a great time there-Go and enjoy it!
    Fuck the terrorists.
The chances are very very very slim that anything would happen.

Hey all...I dont think that terrorists are the only thing to worry about in Turkey - what about the dodgey locals? I have been in Turkey twice, and while i was completely blown away by the historical sights and all the rest, I got robbed BOTH times. As in, I woke up in bed to strangers in my room going through my things.... The 2 trips were around 8 years apart, the first was to Bodrum (with the folks) and the other to Cesme. On both trips, I was woken up by men (am female) going through my personal belongings, STANDING AT THE END OF MY BED...The second time I lost almost all of my jewelry as well as electronic equipment (expensive camera, MP3 player, etc)...We suspected that the hotel was 'in on it' - both times i got robbed it was on the penultimate day of the holiday (i.e. we would soon be outta the place and so, out of the way and not stirring things up amongst the other guests)...And to top it off, the attitude of the hotel staff was 'well, you guys are lucky they didnt just cut your throats as you slept and take their time going through the room'...

To cut a long story short...I would avoid Turkey.
