I heard about a new card club that has been going for a few weeks in Rockbrook, Rathfarnham. It operates from upstairs of Sean Dohertys (the Dublin footballer not the politician) Pub. It was due to kick off at nine but did not get going till about 9.30 and there were rebuys for the first 1.5hrs. Levels started at 25/50 and increased every 30 mins till the end of the rebuy, after which point they increased every 20 mins. Some levels were skipped after the break, but there was plenty of room for play in the rebuy period. As the thread title states, buy in was €20 with €3 reg, more then 10% but I am a bit more forgiving then some on this point. For the €20 you got 1000 chips, once you had less then 50% of the starting stack you could rebuy. Rebuys were €10, and for a rebuy you got 2000 chips. At the end of the rebuy period you could then top up for €10 and get 3000 in chips for this. I did not particularly like this set up but I wanted to play the tournie, particularly as this club is a 5 minute drive home and numbers would be small so I did not expect it to go that late.

I guess there were about 20 - 24 players in total, with varying styles and standards, but mostly of a poor standard. Lots of chasers, so if you got good hands you could clean up. The dealers were all very polite but were a bit unsure of what they were doing when things got complicated, and had to be told how much the side pots should be more often then not, but a bit more training would sort this out no problem. The prize pool at the end was $1000 with €500 for first €250 for second etc etc.

Most of the problems are teething problems and will hopefully sort themselves out sooner rather then later. They do not have any cash games running yet but they have the above tournie every Monday, A €30 (max 3 rebuys ) every Friday night and €50 (2 rebuys) every Thursday night. Soft drinks etc are given out to tournie players while Blackjack and roulette players are offered a beer or two on the house.

All in all, I thought the facilites were fine, ie new tables and chips etc. Was happy with the general service. I think some other things will sort themselves out given a few weeks and I hope this place works just for the convenience of it. Having said that I came in third and did not get home till after two, but I suppose when there are rebuys till 11 that is going to happen.
