whereabouts? Are you planning on driving across Dublin just for an oil filter?
Also what car? e.g. there are many places that specialise in German cars for example.

There's the wee bike-shop in Stillorgan (can't remember their name) beside the Chinese takeaway, across from McDonalds. They're pretty good for general stuff.

Ashgrove Interparts on the road between Deansgrange and Dun Laoghaire have the biggest stock I have seen - their prices aren't bad but they tend not to display them on the stock ? Hate that. But they sell practically everything or can source it for you.

I've saved the best till last: Tallaght Autoparts (http://www.tallaghtautoparts.ie) They carry a great amount of stock, but their prices... I've had quotes from other people (headlamps etc) and even "trade prices" from friends-of-friends for Hella parts, but Tallaght undercut those prices big-time. Worth a call/visit.

Halfords aren't exactly cheap, but for me they're like the impulse-buy-sweetie-counter at the tills in supermarkets. When I go in there for a few bulbs, I always seem to come out with all manner of stuff

For German/Swedish/French cars there's an excellent wholesale motorfactors in Oak Rd Business Park, just off the Nangor road (and behind Parkwest Autopoint Garage); tel: 4606062, web: www.gsfcarparts.com. I picked up an aluminum air hose for a '91 golf for just €4.

For general car stuff I find Mitchell's on Capel street very good value, especially compared to Halfords.
