no joy on the windows thread so..

I want to set Folders up so that they can't be moved or renamed by accident. Ideally so that a user could take ownership of the folder so they can rename/move/delete if really needed. But users must be able to add/chage/delete files in the folders.

Cacls will allow me to reset permissions on existing files but not folders
Xcacls has problems on inheritance ( Might just turn off inheritance anyway because of gotcha's and the way it makes it a little harder to figure out what a user can actually see)
Xcacls.vbs - Anyone any experiance with this ?

cacls and xcacls will do folders but you need to specify the level above - then it treats the folder as a file.

As for the way your permissioning it's not that simple. We looked at doing something similar a while back and we couldn't find a proper way of doing it. If users have delete access then they can rename/move folders. If you remove delete rights then they can add/modify files but move/delete nothing. This leads to problems with MS apps, particularly Word, as they create a temp file in the folder when opening a document and then attempts to delete it when the doc is closed.
