Has anyone ever had a proper pint of stout on a saturday night in a packed pub coz I haven't never ever ever have had.

My suggestion would be to have proper stout pouring facilites away from the rest of other drinks were stout is perpared in the time tested manner of waiting a few minutes.

I had always drank Guinness until about two years on one packed st stephens night I got a pint pulled in one slapped down in front of me.
Quite stupidly of me I paid for it (had waited a good 30 minutes ffs!) and drank the thing down.
Needless to say for the next two days I was puking everywhere and couldn't eat a thing without it coming straight back up... not a pleasant experience at all.
So I've resigned myself to only drinking beer or shots on a heavy night out or in clubs.. which tbh is much better & quicker smile.gif
Also the fact that pretty much the only other stout (apart from the lovely Porter House choices) is Murphys isn't heartening as it tastes absolutely woeful.

    Ugh, Murphys...

To the original question, yes - try any pub in Tralee.

Most country towns, for that matter, have at least one or 2 places where you can get good pints even when its busy.

Haven't found any such in city centre, but out in Swords & Donabate the porter is always nice.

It's pointless trying to get a pint of Guinness in a really busy bar/nightclub. I usually switch to shots when the bar gets too busy.

I think that it depends where you go. I have found that O'Donahue's on Stephens Green or Tonners on Baggot Street always maintain top quality stout even when totally packed.

Ah yes, the classic dilemna. I don't like beer so I usually move on to spirits. However I was in Messrs Maguires on friday night, and despite being packed, the guinness was quite reasonable, and their own "extra" stout was excellent stuff. Most pubs with a fairly young crowd in dublin seem to skimp on the guinness, which is very annoying.

I quite like the guinness in Messers'.

But the nicest guinness i've had in dublin was in Mulligans just off Tara street.
Nice place to go if you actually want to have a conversation with the people you're with. No mobile phone policy as well, you have to go outside if you want to use them.

Murphys doesn't seem to travel well. Had some really nice Murphy's in Bandon a while back.

The Oak on abbey st. or on dame st (at less busy times) both serve great pints of guinness... its been a while though.

I also heard that certain Temple Bar pubs are now doing the "one-pour" Guinness, and telling punters that if they don't like it the can shag off somewhere else.

Funny. I never thought of Temple Bar as that cool.

    Hell in a hand-basket, I tell ya.
