    hey,

I want to buy this surge protector:
    http://www.vikingdirect.ie/(4lmdu0vpjdebkq45b1pryxvm)/catalogSku.aspx?id=F9H110CWI&PR=QD8

and then I want to connect a standard extension to it with 6 outlets, that have my computer and other equipment connected to it, I know, I could just buy a 6 outlet surge protector, but they are too big, and there is not enough space where I want to put it.

my question is: the surge protector will work right? will protect computer(s) and other things connected to that standard outlet?

    Viking are Rip-Off merchants!!!

Find a way of storing a complete 6 plug surge protected extension as they normially include a RJ45 pass through which you might regret not investing in when your PC services a shock through the mains but goes boom when the lightning travels into your PC through its NIC!!!

Well you can rig a normal telephone cable to connect with RJ45 instead of RJ11 plugs easily(have you a crimper?)....though you can easily find them with RJ11.....but RJ45 is more common.

I had the same idea as yourself a couple of months ago and got an old UPS from a friend with a working batter and 4 outputs for power and a passthrough RJ45 connector.
