ive suffered Oceanfree's tyranny long enough, and ive just signed up to iol, which seems a bit better, is eircom any better?

PS sorry if this a tedious, frequently asked question, i don't frequent this part of the boards that often

eircom is a pile of week old pants. UTV is apparently one of the best available but I'm sure people will disagree with me.

Nope!. I've used UTV (formerly DNA Internet - dna.ie) since I began using the internet at home, and I've found them to be generally speaking, very consistent and reliable. I'm getting 45.3Kbps or 49.3Kbps on average. Sometimes dipping to 44kbps or 42.6Kbps. Not bad for a 56K modem! I'm happy.

The only gripe I have is every so often the modem freezes for about a minute (its either the modem or ISP .. dunno which). But other than that, everything is hunky dorry. Connection is usually on 1st attempt. Rarely is it more than 2.
