Help me win an arguement-pretty please

Am having banter-ish type arguement with my friend who thinks she is right,,
Is the saying,,, "Fallen by the wayside" (i think) or "fallen by waistside",,(she thinks its to do with butchers robbing meat years ago,,or something like that,,)
have never heard/seen it written that way, but she backs up a good arguement but i cant be wrong!!

Wayside for sure. It always made perfect sense to be - by the side of the path (the way). Your friend's argument can sound convincing, in much the same way that we can say Golf means 'Gentlemen Only - Ladies Forbidden' or 'fuck' means 'fornication under carnal knowledge' or some such.
