I've just discovered www.thomann.de after browsing some threads here on boards.ie.

are they good to deal with? are they good deals or just a front for Trotters Independant Trading?

    Any comments, experiences are appreciated

(Thinkin of gettin what looks like a cool behringer amp for 230€ there)

Yes, they are quite good to deal with. I know a few others have had issues with them requesting copies of the front and back of their credit cards (depending on size of order) but I have had no problems with them based on the couple of orders I've placed with them.

Normal delivery is usually 2-3 weeks so if you are in a hurry to buy something, Id suggest you visit a local shop qouting Thomann prices and see if they will do anything for you.

Otherwise, I'd say they are generally okay.

They are fine, though delivery can be a little lethargic at times. They'll only ask for a copy of the card if your name and address is different to the one the card is registered to (ie student living away from home ordering of mummy's card).

    Hi there
I have used Thomann quite a few times and have never had any troubles. One time I thought they were slow I emailed them and they replied straight away - the parcels were on the way they aid, and sure enough happened to arrive that very day.

The charge for delivery can make it too expensive to buy a couple of packs of strings, so I usually save up and buy a few things together, and get any mates into music to buy their stuff at the same time. Then delivery is about €20 spread between us.

Their equipement is good-- at least enything I've gotten has been, but I havent bought a guitar from them yet (yet!) so I cant vouch for them. My son got a drum kit recently and hes delighted with it. I intend to buy an new small PA for the garage at home - €300 or so will do it - try getting that in Musicmaker!!! :(

    As you can see
with all online stores you'll get mixed opinions - there is a post at the moment about how msuician123.com f****ed up big time for some-one!
You are taking a slightly bigger risk when shopping online - thats why its cheaper!
If an online shop lets you down you cant exactly stroll down to them, return the goods, and clock them one can you, whereas there are a few heads in music shops in Dublin that have had a good earbashing from yours truly over the years.

Try it once. If you dont like it stick to shopping in your local music megastore!

They asked me for a copy of the front and back of my credit card which has my name and home address. But they did ask me to blank out the middle eight digits on the front and the security code on the back.

I had a similar experience buying a pa from Thomann where they wanted photocopies of the front and back of my card and also a copy of the header of my last credit card bill. I rang up my bank and they said that *under no circumstances* was I to send on those details! I emailed back Thomann to cancel the order about 5 or 6 times and never heard from them again.
Then by chance I heard about Music Technology Ireland based in Dublin and they said they would more or less match Thomann's prices and I got the pa from them. Since then I've bought pickups and pedals from them and they've always been competitive on price. I had a problem with a monitor I got from them and they took it back and replaced it no questions asked - try doing that with a crowd in Germany!!!
    Hope that helps.
    Jay

"Then by chance I heard about Music Technology Ireland based in Dublin"

    got a link?

also, Shane can you outline the trouble you had with thomann? I would use the dublin crowd if the prices were good/similar.

edit: cause the guitarist is considering buying stuff from thomann at the moment.

one order took 8 weeks to arrive, impossible trying to contact them by phone and they just ignored all my emails, when it finally arrived box was damaged as was one of the speaker stands inside.

in my experience their delivery time is longer than Music Store and you cant track the order either, generally poor customer service, snotty sales reps, I could go on all day but basically they're like the Music Maker of Germany:rolleyes:
