Looking for a recommendation for a 4* camp site on the west coast from Vendee region south.
Hopefully near the beach with a good pool and slides for kids and plenty to do in the local area.

A colleague was raving last year about Camping Zagarella down near ST Jean de Monts....also the Yello group have some decent campsites by all accounts.

Zagarella is one I've bookmarked to check out...only issue I have with it at the moment is that they allow pets. Not sure how this affects the cleanliness of the camp site....wife is a bit worried that the place will have dogs roaming about and with the rabies issue in France, it's not something I want to get into to.
If you wouldn't mind asking your colleague about the pets allowed.

He says that pets are allowed on all the campsites (the French love their dogs) and that there weren't any animal problems in Zagarella...generally dogs are everywhere you go in France and don't seem to cause a problem (other than sh**e)

Le Bois Dormant and Le Bois Maison (same owners) - two quite big sites in Vendee...massively popular with the Irish. link below - hope u can read French.

As parsi said, dogs are everywhere in France, including restaurants etc.

The camp site I just came back from had a no pet policy, so if possible I'd like to stay in another one with same policy.

My main concern is that is they allow pets, then are dogs allowed run free thro the sites and crap all over the place. With small kids, it's not what I want. Am I wrong or do dogs carry rabies in France?

Rabies is still present in France but it's not like it's an epidemic or anything. Especially on a campsite where the only pets allowed would be family pets and they have to be immunised against rabies. You've more chance of getting it (and an extremely extremely slim chance at that) outside of the campsite.

    that's good to hear....

at the moment we seemed to have decided on Le Vieux Port down by Biarritz....waiting to hear back from them about pricing but it came highly recommended.
Still haven't ruled out the Vendee but we might go for 3 weeks and if we go for that long we might as well go further south.
Otherwise I'll fly to Biarritz and hire for the duration

All french campings request pets to be attached at all time. They can't run freely in the camp. Too dangerous for children and this is a general policy.

Campers can be faced with eviction if the rules are not respected.

The best is to give them a ring to make sure. They all speak english.
