Not so long ago someone bought stuff on my credit card.
Someone nicked my credit card number.
It must of been when i was buying something on the computer.
I buy from good sites but there must be some sort of bug on my computer.
I would also like some free virus stuff.
    Thanks

It's far more likely that someone took your number when you used your credit card in a shop. Easy for any shop assistant to take a note of the number. It's only 16 numbers at the front and three on the back so it's also quite possible that anyone who's seen your card made a mental note of the numbers (most people can't remember more than about six or seven but there are plenty who can do much better).

Having said that it's also possible that you may have used the card on the Net on a site that doesn't use an encrypted form for payment but realistically there aren't all that many people who would bother taking credit card numbers in this way as the relatively small limit on cards (mine is a shade under 10 grand and for most people it's lower) means it just isn't worth the effort they have to go to. If you have been buying from non-SSL sites, it's still far more likely that some bad guy took your number in person in real life from the actual card.

Assuming that you've got no protection from anything on your PC, you could still do with something - I'm sure a few souls will recommend one of the better freeware anti-virus packages. Additionally, download ad-aware from here, spybot from here, run both, change your credit card number and be aware that it isn't just the internet that can rob your credit card details, though there aren't all that many things you can do about that.

you give no reason as to why you think your c c number has been nicked?

Have you not get payment insurance on your credit card? You will get it back anyways. sceptre is right - there is probably more chance that you cc number was taken in a regular shop than on the net.

Tell your CC company and get them to rape whoever lives at the address that the stuff was ordered to. CC fraud is pretty serious.

Then install AVG and Spybot. It's much more likely you got ur CC copied or number written down at a shop/restaurant though. CC fraud online is nothing compared to retail

Surely you use your CC in other places other than the internet?
What's to say it wasn't stolen from there?

Because people have been brainwashed into believing that 'credit cards across the internet' is unsafe, when in fact its much safer then handing your card to a waiter/shop assistant etc

i remember working before and someone gave me a credit card, the first 12 digits were the exact same as my card....
would have been very easy to remember the rest...

it would also be very easy to remember the whole lot for some people..

personally, i think internet is safer, just be sure to look for the "secure icon" in your browser for ordering stuff

You should use FireFox for many reasons, but specifically the whole address bar turns yellow when you enter a https site, so visually it's very easy to see.

You wouldn't happen to have gotten a mail from paypal or some bank asking you to update your account details now would you? I think that's about the only way someone can get your CC details on the net, if you willingly give them.

Shopping online is far safer than in an actual shop as the card details are normally checked instantly (including CVC2 code and cardholder address) whereas in a shop all you need to enter is a card number and exp date. They are supposed to verify your signature, but when is the last time you had a shop attendant hold on to you card to verify the signature? It's very rare.

Get Adaware and spybot search and destroy to check for spyware. Get AVG anti-virus if you want a free scanner too. Good to have but unlikely that this was the cause of your credit card miss use.
