I'm in san francisco and at work i have fast commercial SDSL which loads web pages all around the world instantly. Occasionally for some reason it won't be able to reach European servers, and i can't even ping them from dosprompt... this is just something wrong in the exchange and its usually fixed in a few mins.

But, now i have ADSL for the flat, and i get fast downloads and a lot of bandwidth (80k/s downloads) and American pages load really quickly but i can't download from european sites... or even load the pages. In the first half a second, I load a third of the page, but then it almost stops loading, and i can't get the rest of the page loaded. same with images and downloads.

I can't open www.quake.ie properly or www.quakenation.com, but for some reason www.boards.ie is fine... is boards.ie hosted in America?

The worst thing about this is that I can't idle on IRC... it takes ages to connect and when i'm on... i only have about 1 min before my connection to IRC dies. Are there any american quakenet servers or anything?
does anyone knwo whats wrong with this and if its something to do with my settings or soemthing?

This is a problem @ your ISP and you should be talking/telling them about it.

Sounds to me like u got some overusage of ADSL in your area... it being San Fran and all... one of the highest Internet uptakes in the world... must be a whore for ISPs to keep up with the demand for Bandwidth... as for pinging problems... well some ISPs restrict access to certain functions to provent hacking or exploitation of the services... but stopping your ability to ping sounds mental(r more likly i am wrong).
As for quake.ie... its ****e. Hardly ever loads for me(on 56k and in Dubhlán)

    good luck in escaping america
