There is VNC but not really what your after. It will only spawn one instance of a desktop if that is any use.

The only other proper terminal server is actually window nt 4 terminal server, an os in it's own right.

There is also some citrix stuff... though I don't know if that runs on NT..

Basically what we have is a 64k direct line, that needs up to 4 people taking the screenshots, 16k each. So suggestions please, upgrade the servers to 2k (and all and sundry!)? or attempt to acquire the nt4 terminal service OS?

ooh and ta for all the help laeds smile.gif

Citrix Metaframe is by far one of the best options for thin-client solutions.

It will reduce that 64k Bandwidth traffic dramactly, giving each user their applications and desktop of their own. Only thing chiefy, Metaframe still requires you to install NT Terminal Services and it can be expensive depending on your licences.

If you were to use W2k Server, it has Terminal Server build into it and all you are required to purchase is the Citrix application.

However, with just NT, you need to purchase Terminal Services and Citrix to get it to work.

Thanks for all the help there laeds! If we went the Win2k server route, would all the client machines need win2k pro or would the 98 systems function as clients easily? ie. all we would have to do is update the server and not have to reinstall every machine having to use it.

Terminal services on standard W2k server are timebombed (to I think 60 days). After that you have to purchase additional licenses.

    Citrix Metaframe is yer man,
We have it setup with a dual ISDN RAS connection for dial in and internally our accounts dept. share a secure analogue dial out for EBB Banking,
Requires a lot of Ram, 1 Gig in ours to keep it ticking over,
    I hope this helps,
