ok i'm getting isdn tomorrow and i want to know whats involed in upgrading the line. I have wiring going all over the house atm, it's 4 cord it think, the engineer said something on the phone about 6 cord cable. Will all the wiring in my house have to be changed?

The phone line coming into the house has to go straight to the isdn box, from there you can wire in the house phones. If the isdn box is to be in your room, it is possible to use the other cores in the cable to bring the line from the box back to a house phone.
It depends on how many phones you have in the house, but basically you will have a set of wires coming from the isdn box, to run all your phones from.

    aye gerry's right.
i had isdn line put in a while back and did the rest meself. the isdn only uses two wires anyway.

i didnt get the "high speed" upgrade, i just got the bog standrard isdn line in so i had to get a device to chg the isdn line to "POTS" so i could plug in a normal phone.

but i would guess the one you are getting will look after that for you, otherwise if it doesnt and you want to use a phone on the isdn line you will need an isdn phone.

In my last job we got 3 pairs (3 pairs = 6 lines). If, as you intimate, you have phones spread around the house, you should install CAT5 or CAT6 cables so you can put you phone / PC anywhere in the house. For a few hundred pounds you can put in a very good system. It might be worthwhile upgrading all you phones to proper digital (as opposed to touch-tone) phones.
