Well, i've been messing about with my IXUS 40 pocket cam, which is good for an intro to taking photos, but i was thinking of saving up and going for an SLR to take more photos. Any suggestions, with a fair price as possible kept in mind.

you can't go wrong with the Canon 300D, i got one at christmas and they are bloody brilliant, dead easy to use too. You should get it for a reasonable price now since the 350D came out :)

Canon G6.. just got one.. They Are Amazing. You cant go too wrong with canon, if your willing to shell out a little more. The G6 is Brilliant, it has everything you need, it's compact, and very god quality, at 7.1 MP it's well above par. it's packed full of features and will definalty stand the test of time.

what exactly is the difference between the G series and the EOS series. Im swinging toward the 300D. If i were to go with the 300d, what price would i be looking at (including getting a good lens)?

why 300D? Or more to the point, why not 350D?

Unless of course youre buying second hand, in which case I retract my previous question :D

i dunno. Probable reason is that im 18 so money plays a big factor. I would buy second hand if i knew that the condition would be good. I suppose i could buy first hand. I don't know tbh.

I've been looking at DSLR's myself for the last few years.

The 350XT does look very good for the money, but the viewfinder is rather dim compared to the Konica/Minolta 7D or Pentax *ist/DS units. The metering on the Pentax is better too.

Look at www.dpreview.com for reviews and forums.

I'm personally leaving off buying until next year, the market is accelerating at an enormous pace. Next year we'll have new Sony (KM mount) SLR's and Oly/Pana 4/3 mounts - that's 2 new players in one year in a market which traditionally had only 4 or 5.

hmm, well im zoning in on the 300D, problem is, i dont know where ill get one as they have ben replaced by the 350.

I'd prefare not to pay 700 euro for the camera and instead look for it 2nd hand. (i saw it first han in a show todayd-only one i could find on show in dublin - for a mere 1099euro!, more than the 350XT)

My first place to look would obiously be ebay, but i have reservations about that. Seems a bit dodgy to be buying such a fragile piece of work. I tried all (i think) of the walk-in shops in Dublin and none did 2nd hand. Any ideas? Contacts?
