Ok , really sorry if this is the wrong place for this thread but i couldn't figure out where the best place to put this thread would be. :o

Anyway my question is, Does anyone know if you get married in Las Vegas does it count as a proper marrige here in Ireland ? We are having a bit of a debate here in work and i reckon its 50/50 on a vote here. But does anyone know for a fact how it works ?

    TIA,

    Ciaran

    Yep
got married there on March 4th 1995. Had a great trip ( the wife won $14500 on the slots OMFG! ). We had no probs back here would highly recommend it. There was an issue at the time with inheritance but I think that has been resolved since. For everything else the marriage was recognised here.

    Yes it does count.

I know a guy who woke up one morning in Vegas married to some random girl and then had to come home and tell his girlfriend about it (!). He didn't remember a thing, all his mates thought it was a great laugh, and he had the cert.
I'm not sure if he ever bothered getting it anulled, the gf eventually broke up with him, and he's a complete moron.

I got married there too (by Elvis, County). You need to register the marriage here and stuff. I am not aware of any problems but I haven't tried to get divorced :D

Do you have a fiance? I think some of the wedding chapels supply them if you foget to bring one along.

So are you going for elvis or Vader?

This can't happen because you need to go to the county courthouse 24 hrs before the marriage to get county cert for the "minister"

We went to the little chapel of the flowers on the strip ( I kid you not ). The minister gave us a real Blarney sermon " may the road rise up to meet you ... begorrah begosh and all that " and ( this is the best bit ) we got a free t shirt each saying "I got married in the little chapel of the flowers" ... giving the names dates etc !!!

Are you sure? Perhaps it's changed since you got married? I'm definitely not lying, but it's possible his mates got a fake cert done up. I know his (ex) girlfriend well, and she wasn't much pleased when he told her :D
That would be a risky thing to do if he was just taking the piss.

Vegas, a place where you can lose what took you thirty years to earn in 30seconds ! Anybody see that film Rat Race man that was funny, Rowan Atkinson as the italian guy, i never laughed so hard. Is it true they also do quickie divorces there ? i know some people who could do with one of those !
