I've been looking but haven't found any online resources. I think that it may be difficult in Ireland as we've such a compensation culture - trespassing on private property could result in expensive injuries (so don't get caught ;)). Personally I want to start bridge traversing but haven't really discussed it with the people I climb with. I wouldn't mind a bit of urban exploring either, do you have a site in mind?

The above may be what your after. They go into abandoned places, and scope it out. Also, they go in as a team, as most of the places aren't that safe.

I've done quite a bit around Dublin and Ireland. I would advise not to do it alone under any circumstances. A lot of places can be a haven for junkies and they can also be dangerous so if you get in to trouble you at least have someone there to either help you or summon help. Carry good torches, petzl head torches are pretty good, leaves your hands free at all times. Always go in daylight too, less chance of there being dodgy people around and you can usually see a bit better. A good place to check out in the dublin area would be the strand bowl, very interesting place. There was a room in the basement, quite large and obviously no windows. In the corner was a few cushions, a sleeping bag, some clothes and some used needles and syringes. Stirred something inside me as it is not something you ever see unless you go looking for it. It also has a room full of ericson equipment still in use with huge backup batteries and I presume they are part of the aeriels on the roof. The roof has an external ladder which leads to some pretty good views of the city. The old cinema at Harolds Cross was a nice spot too, but it was tricky to gain access as I had to jump from a wall and catch the balcony at the front then pull myself up.

Hey there folks. I am very interested in this and would love to get involved. Am based in Limerick though. Would be good if we could get a central website set up so that people from around the country could be pointed to the website and then find people who are also interested near where they live.

Not sure Ireland is the best of place for this sport as there are not as many urban centres as say in the US/Canada/England and also the compo culture results in any worth while buildings being well guarded.

Are the boland mills on canal open or closed? I see there's grafitti on them and was wondering how people got up there.

FX Meister: Fascinating - I worked there some 15 years ago. Eircell installed an 088 cell site in the building around that time... must be converted to GSM now.

Please PM me if you've any more pics of the place.

I have a few more but the quality isn't great. PM me your email address and I'll send them on. The equipment all seems to be running but the batteries look a bit messed up. The whole room is open so I'm surprised that scumbags haven't smashed it up by now.

There is an urbex forum here on Boards. It's private but just PM Silverfish for access. It's kind of quiet though.

Abandoned Ireland is a neat site. Not really geared at urban explorers, more of a collection of photos of old buildings, no doubt some of which are now gleaming new apartment blocks (though some of those may also be nice and empty and ripe for exploration now), but some interesting stuff...

http://www.urbexjunkie.com is my own personal site, and the community forum is here http://www.urbanexploration.ie/community_forum

Urbex is only really starting to become popular in Ireland.

I have a photographer looking for an abandoned house/hotel in the north of ireland, preferably close to Newry.

    Does anyone know of anywhere?

    Thanks in advance :)
