    Got this really simple idea off another forum. Just upload the .txt file that you exported by clicking "Tools" > "Adblock" > "Preferences" and choosing "Adblock Options" > "Export filters"

    See my list here

    Then download other's lists and import into your AdBlock, making sure you select "cancel" so it appends, not overwrites.

    I'd love to share mine, but I would have to spend the rest of the night trying to remove all the porn sites from it.

    EDIT: Something I see you didn't bother to do ;)

    Adblock is pretty unethical guys... Most websites need those ad impressions to run. I think it's incredibly scabby to use it

    Er, they're not mine. I don't create lists, that list was created from the same idea as here on a different forum.
    Screw the porn sites! (pun intended)

    @demon,

    You are right, to some extent - although maybe if some of those ad infested websites went to the wall it might be for the best. However I agree, a site like boards should be allowed the benefit of ad revenue, and their ads are unintrusive. The same can be said for google.

    However how blocking ads by certain companies, in particular Doubleclick could be unethical is beyond me - the way many of them treat the privacy of web users is more criminal than unethical.

    The ads on certain websites are annoying, especially with a 56k modem. IN paritcular I note rte as a prime example.

    To bring this to its logical conclusion -is going to the jacks during an adbreak unethical?

    Yeah it is true that there is a lot of **** out there that there is no point in not blocking. My statement was a bit too sweeping. Annoying flash ads deserve a block, and anything on a large company's website. I'd hate to deprive the little guy of ad revenue though.

    Surely tho when the website is loaded the code for said ad is also cached into the browser, just not displayed? If so it'd be logged in the server as a view.

    I think adblock's an absolute godsend.

    We have to put up with ads/spam everywhere: TV, in the cinema, DVDs, magazines, radio, newspapers, email, our letterboxes...

    It's nice to at least be able to browse the net in peace without being bombarded with crap.

    Here are some from my list that I find to be fairly effective:

    *.ad.*
    *.ads.*
    *.ad/*
    *.ads/*
    */ads.*
    */ad.*
    */ad/*
    */ads/*
    */banner/*
    */banners/*
    *banner_ads*
    */adverts/*
    */advertisers/*

    */adserve*
    *.adserve*
    *doubleclick.net*
    *falkag.*
    *advertising.com*
    *adbureau.*
    *fastclick.net*
    *adireland.com*
    *belnk.com*
    *serving-sys.com*
    *valuead.com*
    *freeze.com*
    *adrevolver*
    *revenue.net*
    *clicksor.com*
    *googlesyndication.com*
    *maxserving.com*
    *addfreestats.com*
    *bullz-eye.com*
    *tribalfusion.com*

    how do I import them properly? it imports all into one line like this

    */adserve**.adserve**doubleclick.net**falkag.**advertising.com**adbureau.**fastclick.net**adireland.com**belnk.com**serving-sys.com**valuead.com**freeze.com**adrevolver**revenue.net**clicksor.com**googlesyndication.com**maxserving.com**addfreestats.com**bullz-eye.com**tribalfusion.com*

    and it doesn't work :(

    Ya, it's a bit of a pain. The entries have to be separated with a special character (carriage return line feed/enter AFAIK)
    Save this:
    adblock.txt

    Tools-Extensions-Adblock-Options

    Adblock Options-Import filters-Select the text file to open

    Then click "cancel" to add the new ones to your existing list. (If duplication occurs, it'll remove them on its own after you click done)

    EDIT: Just saw SnappieTs list, his one's fairly comprehensive, nice one.

    ps.
    you can always turn off adblock when you are on sites that you trust and want to support

    You might want to combine it with a good HOSTS file

    Well,
    I do not agree with you at all, I am not interested in all the ads, why do I have to use my bandwith for content I do not care about...?
    I think adblock is the best feature of firefox by far...

    As far as I know Adblock actually stops the connection to the ad server, hance bandwidth is saved and no log would be kept.

    I think it's the best invention ever, popups, flash banners, animated gifs, etc can all be very annoying when you're trying to read a page (or watch pr0n).

    Also handy to just block an image or script you don't want to see/run.

    Ads aren't a bad thing, but over-use of them is. I use mail.online.ie for email and their ads have gotten really bad. An animated banner top and bottom of the page plus the entire right hand side of the screen is also an animated banner. That was first on my list. I don't care if they loose revenue from it either, if they weren't so scabby by filling the page with ads I might not have blocked it.
