Newsgroup access provider

Anyone here got any experience with different companies for usenet/newsgroup access ?

I've decided to go for it and just get some access since im sick of rooting around the web for all my news needs. What I'll need :

    1) Fast enough. Hopefully faster than 100kB a second, 200 kB would be ideal.
    2) Good retention rates / completion rates and all that stuff.
    3) 30 gig cap at least, maybe unlimited (I'd like to download a LOT of news)
    4) Cheap

I've checked around for companies that do access and there are so many of them that I really can't decide. Any place I've found that reviews them is years out of date as well.

Hopefully some fellow boards members will have some advice :D

    Cheers

I bet you like your news in binary format as well???

Honestly though those sites are all very suspicious!

easynews is good - especially for web access (http), but more expensive than others for nntp.

newshosting offers unlimited downloads for $14.95 a month - good retention and speed. Best overall value.

giganews is overall the best (only nntp) - its unlimited for $25 a month - the retention and speed is better than newshosting.

however, you'll easily get 200kB on newshosting, I've gotten up to 2MBytes/s.

If you really want long retention (up to 50 days) go for giganews - newshosting is only about 24 days - easynews is about 35(ish) days.

    nice prices,
guess i never bothered with the unlimited packages,
eircom only offer 20gigs a month download so i just checked the packages for about 10$.

Hmmm.... good advice guys, thanks a mill.

Do you think it is worth going for the longer retention of giganews over newshosting for the extra 10$ ?

I'd say it'd be more convenient but then again an extra tenner a month is a fair bit....

Give the cheaper one a shot first....dipping your feet you could say.

PM me once your setup as I'd like to find out more about it once you have access as its a tempting investment!!!

Got myself a 20 gig account with www.easynews.com in the end. Very very fast, havent yet been able to max out the speed that they'll let you use since me and zuma have been logged in on it at the same time both dling headers at 220k.
I think I'll need an unlimited provider next month though, 20 gigs (30 if u jump through their hoops) just doesnt seem like enough now that i have it....
