I'm hoping you might be able to advise me on this laptop, as I've been looking very hard for a good laptop and this seems to have good reviews. I can get it for about 695 euro. It doesn't have wireless though... is that something I can buy and add on to this pc? Does that cost much? Thanks for your help.

I got the Aspire 5021 about a week ago.

(didnt get it from mango tho)

I am impressed with the 5021. Very powerful, and no problems yet. The Turion 64 processor is an absolute beast, and has easily managed some very intensive multi-tasking without breaking a sweat (although to be honest, there is really no need to go 64 bit unless you have a specific reason... I'm installing Gentoo Linux 64 bit and Windows XP 64 soon).

Screen is not as good as the top end Sonys I have seen, but is fairly impressive anyway.

The only slight gripe I have is with the keyboard. Keys are not as responsive as previous laptops... have to be pressed harder.

I think the 5002 is a good laptop and excellent value. If you can live without wireless and can make do with 64mb graphics, go for it.

thanks, i can always buy a Wireless Notebook Network Card then right? or is there something more that you need for using it in WiFi areas?

Nope, a wireless card should do it. However, if you think you will be using wireless a lot, you should just get a laptop with wireless built in. This will not be any more expensive than buying a seperate wireless card later anyway.

I will be happy to answer any specific questions you have about my 5021 if this will help. I know its a different model than you are thinking of getting, but the 5021 and the 5002 are similar in many ways.

Also have a look at this review... http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=22987

What do you intend to use the 5002 for anyway?

thanks. the 5021WLMI does look great but it seems quite a bit more expensive.

i've been trying to find a laptop for 700 euro or under and finding it very hard. i'll be using it mostly for the basics, web stuff, watching dvds, and ideally it would be nice to be able to play games, but i doubt i'll be able to get a graphics card good enough it seems... it would be nice to have WiFi capability too.

i seem to have gone through a million web sites now, and it's really confusing, but the 5002LM seems to come closest...

do you think that this might be a good alternative:

    ATI X600 PCI Express 64MB
    1 x S-Video Out
    DVDRW
    Modem/LAN
    6 in 1 card reader
    Wireless
Li-Ion Battery (3.5 hours maximum battery life)

Yep thats a good laptop allright.

Mine has the "crystalbright" 15.4 widescreen too and it is excellent.

You have taken a step down with the choice of Sempron processor though. This wont be noticible if you are not doing any heavy processing and/or multi-tasking.

It really depends on what you are using the laptop for. If you can live without wireless, and a "crystalbright" screen go for the 5002. If you dont need the grunt of a Turion processor, go for the 3022.

This is what i think you should do.

Start a new thread either here or on the main computers thread (more people look at the main computers thread imo).

List about 3 - 5 different laptops, say what your budget is, and try to be fairly specific about what you will be using the laptop for (college, work, games, movies, what programs you will be running, will you need long battery, will you have to lug the thing 25 miles a day on your back, etc).

You should get a lot of replies and suggestions, and someone might even know where to get the same model cheaper.

Cool, thanks again. I'll post on the computers forum now.
