Wireless hardware switch not functioning

    Hello,

I have an Acer Travelmate 290e. S/n LKT400502542712743EB00. My HD
recently failed and had to be replaced. I've completed a clean install
of win XP home edition and installed drivers for the chipset, audio,
modem and wireless card. All drivers were downloaded from the Acer
    website.

The wireless card (WLAN 802.11g mini-PCI module) is properly detected
by both windows and the Configuration Utility. However it says the
radio is disabled. When I click on "Enable radio" it says to use the
hardward radio control switch to enable it. This switch is in the ON
position but yet the card still stays disabled and the LED at front of
laptop remains off. Can you please advise as to why the hardware
    switch is not functioning?

Am I missing a driver or BIOS setting that is required to enabled this switch?

    Many thanks

you can turn on and off in the bios , check that its switched on first before checking software

is it the intel wifi card also or acer /other specific ?

Yea had a look in bios (ver 1.20) but the only items there to change were the boot order and to enable irDA. Nothing about wireless.

Its an acer one as far as I know. Its based on a Broadcom chip anyway.
