Wireless hardware switch not functioning

    Hello,

A friend of mine has an Acer Travelmate 290e. The HD
recently failed and had to be replaced. I've completed a clean install
of win XP home edition and installed drivers for the chipset, audio,
modem and wireless card. All drivers were downloaded from the Acer
    website.

The wireless card (WLAN 802.11g mini-PCI module) is properly detected
by both windows and its Configuration Utility. However it says the
radio is disabled. When I click on "Enable radio" it says to use the
hardward radio control switch to enable it. This switch on the side of the laptop is in the ON position but yet the card still stays disabled and the LED at front of laptop remains off.

Anyone got ideas why its not working? It was working up to the moment the HD failed.

    Thanks
    R

P.S. Is it jsut me or is boards.ie crawling last 2 days?
