I've never used Teamspeak before so bear with me.
I can connect to the TIG Teamspeak server but what then?
Do I start up the game, Join the TIG server of my choice and hey presto, teamspeak automatically configures itself? Not likely...

I suspect there might be something to do with channels here...

    go to http://www.theirishguard.com/index.php.

There is details on the site somewhere.

here is the address for their teamspeak server

    games3.iol.ie:8787

Teamspeak is seperate from the game.
Just load this server in TS before you load BF.

I have used it a few times on the server. I wouldn't
regard it as "essential" unless there was a clan match
    or something like that.

Does anyone actually use the voip thing in the game then?

Yeah. I usually create a squad called 'VOIP' and those that join tend to be those that want to use it but are shy or can't find others who also want to.

It's great fun though, but it distracts you from the game somwhat and you end up getting killed more frequently. Hmm....I could connect to the bf2 TS server while playing SoF2, and you could all hear my action! Or I could sing a song for you guys....

spilt the channels m8 !! one team on one and the other on another ! ask the TS admin to arange before the match, not to difficult !!

team speak is deadly in a game imho, brings and extra dimesion and frees up your typing messages !

Yeah, pretty much all the time.

I boot it up, 'hit connect to IP' button, and type in TiG.

Then I ALT-TAB abck to All Seeing eye running on the desktop where I have the TiG servers listed in favourites. I hit F5 to update every 10 seconds or so and as soon as there's a slot free I ALT-TAB back to BF2 and connect first time :)
