Anyone a fan of his work ? Ima big brass eye fan and based on that I bought 'The Day Today' & 'Jam' today. Im slightly dissapointed in the day today as it seems to be watered down brass eye. Jam on the other hand is excellent...it may well be the darkest program I have ever seen though...I wouldnt even call it comedy.

    Thoughts?

well, the day today was before brasseye wasn't it? ... maybe he needed to hone his talents before releasing the truly excellent brasseye.

best bit, the paedophile disguised as a school.

have you seen nathan barley? it's his most recent show.. i only caught a few eps myself, I liked it but I can't say why. Weird show.

Brass Eye is quite possibly my favourite comedy series. I can watch it over and over. Heres quite a good article on Morris.

The Day Today was written by the cast as much as Chris Morris, whereas Brass Eye was really his baby, which might be why you find the Day Today a bit watered down. It's my favourite of the two, personally. I think its got a much better rhythm and Chris' Jeremy Paxman is a beautiful thing to watch. :D

You might want to check out some of his radio series, like On The Hour and Blue Jam, which are where the Day Today and Jam came from respectively. Jam's monged-out sounds and sick silliness work much better on the radio and there's so much more of it, too. There are "best of" compilations of On The Hour and Blue Jam, but the only way to get complete episodes is to persue less gentlemanly routes. www.cookdandbombd.co.uk is a good one, if they've sorted out their hosting by now.

Nathan Barley seriously pissed me off. Utter self-pleasuring toss, I thought.

You prefer 'The Day Today' ? Im really quite unimpressed with it. There a fair few news reports in it that dont even muster a snigger from me. Some of it though, I admit, is hilarious.

The guys behind Father Ted wrote some stuff for Brass Eye too. The bit with the moving statues in Ireland was one of theirs.

Chris Morris also wrote some sketches for their Big Train show too.

Brass Eye is a better show than The Day Today alright... but there are some great bits in the Day Today... I love the piece on bullying in the priesthood.

I didn't think too much of Nathan Barley when it started first... but once I got into it I thought it was great and I can't wait to get it on DVD (it's out on September 26th)

Has anyone else seen My Wrongs Number 8245-8249 And 117? I have the DVD... it's pretty funny too.. in a Jam sort of way. But with a running time of just 12 minutes it probably isn't worth buying unless you're a big fan.

Morris is a genius as far as im concerned.
Ive got both the day today and brass eye comlete series. pure gold
Brass eye was shorter but is better.
The eminem lookalike in the peado special (JLB8 i think he was called) was hilarious. also the drugs one where he asks for a "Yellow Sod" and "Clarky Cat" to a London Coke dealer was too funny. he could get celebs to say dumb stuff and look stupid just as well as Ali G can. Rolf Harris talking about "Cake" is gold! :D

For me, TDT was all round funnier than Brass Eye, but BE had more standout moments. I still use the phrase self re-cocking-spect, but not in public.

Has anyone listened to the tramp commentary on Brass Eye Drugs? Absolute genius if it's authentic which, with Morris, there's really no way of telling.

I didnt know there was commentaries. Ive watched the first 4 episodes of the day today and im starting to like it more. Its quite patchy but has moments of genius.

The Day Today is the template for all news programmes since! ;)

On the Hour is worth a place in history for introducing us to the world of Alan Partridge. TDT was at its best with its parody US news shows which if you happened to walk in to watch half way through you'd have sworn were the real deal.

    Mike.

My God the amount of times i had tears running down my face from the laughter! Loved the newspaper headlines as well - about as off-the-wall as you could get! My fav: "Russia Elects Cobweb" - Madness!!

"What now for man raised by puffins?"

About Nathan Barley, well that was a joint project with Charlie Brooker (who created the character initially and incidentally writes the best TV column known to man) and I think that the reason it lacked edge was that the character was a caricature of the Hoxton/Shoreditch dotcom scene that really has disappeared of late. As a work of satire, it was about 3 years late. Taken as a pure comedy work, the jokes fell flat a lot of the time because of their outdated terms of reference.
