I think you can get things called wraps that go over your drum kit instead of painting them.

And I believe ply has to do with how many layers make up something. 6 ply would have 2 more layers than 4 ply.

Feylya is also right bout wraps, dunno where the funk you'd get them tho, might have ta search online american stores or might be lucky enough to get some from an english site. Another shot'd be talkin ta ppl in music maker.
Or if ya really really wanted to paint 'em, remove the wraps you already have n paint directly onto the shell...dunno what effect that'd have on their overall sound tho, if any at all.

You can buy wraps, but they tend to be more expensive than paint or wood dye.

Are you re-painting a kit, or making your own?

What exactly are you asking here?
If you want to look up information on shells, try a manufacturers website.

    Hey,

there are some cool wraps on the web - especially from the US. Try rockenwraps.com (I think thats right). If its wrong, search for scott rockenfield, the drummer from Queensryche. He has developed a wrap system with good graphics and colours. They sometimes are also sold on ebay.
Not too cheap, but good looking.

As for the plys, that is basically the thickness of the shells. 4 ply would have 4 layers, and 6 ply would have 6 as like plywood.

    Hope any of this helps.

    Cheers
