Firefox resource hungry?

Ive never had an issue running any game after a period of time browsing with firefox and then to boot up any game.
The thing is after using firefox and then boot up BF2 i get nowhere near the fps that i do if i rebooted my machine and then straight into BF2 without opening firefox.
Ive tried running BF2 after many applications and framerate is exactly the same as after a full reboot.
Ive tried xfire, teamspeak, ase, hlsw and many more ,same scenario after and with these running BF2 runs fine.
BF2 runs great for me with very high fps on high settings,[better than most from what ive read].
I havent actually tried using internet explorer and then play BF2 as im lead to believe IE is targetted by viruses more so than firefox hence my change to firefox long ago [is this true?]
Could it be that firefox is infact resource hungry as is BF2?
I could opt for another gig of ram but according to this BF2 hardware guide 1gig to 2 gig aint a huge improvement.

It just seems a pain to have to reboot after browsing to get BF2 to run as it does without not opening firefox.

considering the BF2 demo is an unoptimised mess, and crap with memory...?

Im prety sure Dcully is running the full game.

I get the same problems when running BF2 as well...and when ending a game it takes about 10 seconds for everything to start working properly again...even though I have a AMD64 3000+ and 1GB RAM!

Something seems very wrong there. Unless firefox is actually doing something in the background, it shouldn't be able to effect any programs that are run after it.

nope your right Firefox is a memory whore (it can be) when u have more then 3/5 tabs open i usually have about 7/8 ..hmm i have 10 at the moment

games hate to open when i have FF open

yeah you can blame the slowness and stuff on the fact that i have so many tabs open but screw that

wasnt it designed not to be a lag slut?

Yeah i have the full retail game installed.
    Is firefox worth it lads?
I only changed over to it as someone said its more secure than IE.
I can go without the extra tabs feature if its gonna save rebooting to play BF2.

I use Opera8 also...download and try it out...you might like it.
Its a bit of a hog in the memory department as well.....honestly though an extra 1GB of cheap RAM comes in at ~€100 these days...so for Joe Soap at least the cost of more RAM wont be too much!!!

Aye m8 but when i got this machine i had 2X256mb sticks,i then bought a single 512 mb stick ,thats 3 slots taken up.
Can i get a single 1024 mb stick for other slot [ i have 4 slots in full]?
I think i recall reading somewhere this configuration would not work,is this the case?
Id hate to have to geta full 2 gig all over again, especially sice recently i got a new 500w psu to give me also new X800XL the juice it deserves, also me headset went bang the other day and only just recieved a new set from komplett.
Lol the wife will kill me :)

Is your Mobo Dual Channel capable???

Personially I would recommend getting 2 X 1024MB sticks for around €250 and then have the 2 X 256MB all in Dual Channel to give a total of 2.5GB all in Dual Channel.

AMD Socket 939 supports up to 4GB(4 x 1024MB sticks) and the same with the newer Intel chipset Socket775.

    Is this it???

    http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd/rl/

    Like the java 3D view!!!...

Yeah you can support 4GB in the 4 slots of DDR3200

The expensive RAM is only worthwhile if you are a crazy overclocker or want to spend an extra €500 for a 5% gain in performance and have money to burn.
Sell off the single 512MB chip for €30 or €40 as you can pickup 512MB for ~€50

Tabbing is a nifty feature (one which, if you use FF for any length of time, will become impossible to give up), but if you're only starting to use it then there's not much point.
Firefox gets popups as well, and there's one or two massive security flaws in it last time I checked.

Yes, firefox would be removed from memory, you should your task manager to see where all the memory is going to.

Firefox is a memory & CPU hog compared to the likes of IE but this shouldn't be an issue on any modern machine as it only consumes about 30MB (with little increase with extra tabs) and the CPU hit is mostly upon initial startup.
