I'm getting a bit controversial here but the genre that most used to refer to as "musical masturbation" has now exploded into the face of millions of Punks worldwide.

    Jazz is the new Punk.

    And it's circle-pit-alicious.

    Who's with me?

Jazz always was more punk than punk. No song structures, sometimes atonal noise with no discernable melody, bigger, badder drug habits. That's the way, daddio :p

    Glad someone agrees.
I for one am moving on to J-Tizzies.

Anything callling itself Punk is automatically unPunk by default.
Infact just uttering the word Punk in reference to anything causes small pockets of the universe to implode in a mess of idelology.

Similar thing goes for calling anything unPunk which makes the above explanation void and useless. Besides, genres are usually distinguished by the type of hats people wear.

This post doesn't actually exist btw.

Everyone on the thread should listen to Naked City and decide if its Punk or Jazz.
As for the title "Jazz is the new Punk" some would agree including Crass man Penny Rimbaud and his cohorts.
It's all just music anyway what does it matter what it's called.

    Are Rancid punk?
    Are Rancid Jazz?

No,they're hypocritical sons of conglomerat executives that play (new stuff) **** music.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,397 ✭✭✭ANarcho-Munk

    are rancid sh!te ? YES!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

I think it's time to re-emphasize just how much better Jazz is compared to punk. A lot.

I much prefer punk to jazz for different reasons, even though punk hasn't seen much of a worthwhile evolution this past decade...

Just came back from Pere Ubu, excellent stuff.

Emo is a blight on musical taste. A blight I say.

Punk may have produced some great tunes and bands but let's face it, jazz hass been doing the DIY approach decades before any punk. Jazz also is a completely new style of playing, punk has mainly been just a reduced form of rock and roll.
This is a chord. This is another. This is a third. Now form a band.
    Why learn any chords?

    ermm so wait a minute....
    we can't call punk...punk....

and jazz is the new punk ?

so does that mean that this forum shouldnt be called anything and that the jazz/blues forum should be called punk/blues :/

    lmfao

oh and btw emo is total rubbish....why don't those kids ever smile?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

    Yeah something like that
