    OK...

I was talkin in one of the other threads about the grove. Most of you probably know more about it than me (i'm too young), basically a hip joint to spend saturday nights and chill out i guess...

So I was wondering, how does one go about setting up and managing a thing like that? How would you cover the costs of insurance, venue rental etc?

And most importantly: would there be any interest?

    Any feedback much appreciated

Yeah, I know. But that's what I always say to myself before I ever do anything.

    And I've never done anything.

    So please, some positivity!

Well I've a positive approach towards starting it up and all my mates will be up for it too, so at least we'll have some people backing us....well I hope so!

Why not Talk to Krusty about it. He runs the occasional nights for adults so he might help get the teen version going. I haven't seen him in a few years but that's his old card on the front.

It is surprisingly easy to organise something like this but the real problem is local complaints and an oppropriate venue. I doubt any of the old venues would allow it happen again. There is a large amount of destruction involved

Best to start with a special event night then go monthly if possible. I 'd give you hand if you show some signs of doing something.

I hate to break it to you, but the reason the original Grove closed was beacuse they could no longer get insurance for where they were operating (St Paul's in Raheny). I know Cecil (the guy who ran it) looked into a few other locations but it was the same story insurance wise with them.

Anyway, they have Grove re-unions every few months in the old Shieling in Raheny.

To be honest, it was never anything special it just had a cult status as it had been going so long (I suppose it was the northsides version of the Wesley).

(I suppose it was the northsides version of the Wesley).

Does/Did the wes play alt/indie rock music? The Grove was the only place to go when I was a teen that didn't play pop music and that was the big deal to me.

Insurance is a concern but there are ways and means to get insurance and venues. It is possible to get other revenue sources that the Grove hasn't tried before and can be easily done if you want to do it. Think of all those kids around by the central bank on Saturdays is there any venue for them to go on a Saturday night? I really don't know if there is and many can't go to the pub venues so it could work

I think that's a really good idea cos I remember being really frustrated as a teenager with nothing to do.
There's this crazy guy Walsh is his second name I can't remember his first but he helps out in promoting young bands and things and seems to have lots of contacts around town. If you presented you're idea to him he might be interested. I remember he helped us out getting gigs. If you ask around temple bar someone will tell you who he is. He's a bit of a nut but he's not too bad. You might even happen to spot him around temple bar, he has crazy sideburns and talks with a lisp.

When? The guy who did the reunion never mentioned it so maybe it was an advertisement for his night. He did say he was interested in doing a teen one if he could.

I went to the Grove night in the Old Sheiling on Saturday.
It was really good fun. Marty Whealan was there as was Cecil. The next one is at Halloween.
