Holland grab final World Cup spot

Holland grabbed the fifth and final World Cup qualifying spot following a 145-run victory over the United Arab Emirates in Dublin on Monday.
A brilliant 116 not out by opener Bas Zuiderent guided the Dutch to a match-winning 287 for four.

Middle-order duo Tim de Leede and Ryan ten Doeschate also contributed with swift knocks of 65 apiece.

The Dutch, who had been put into bat, bowled out the UAE for 142 with Darron Reekers taking 3-33.

The pressure was on the Dutch to reach third World Cup after they lost out in the group stages to Scotland and Denmark who automatically qualified for the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies.

Holland will now be in the same Group 1 in the Caribbean as Australia, South Africa and Ireland and all games will take place in St Kitts & Nevis.

Ireland and Scotland will battle it out for the ICC Trophy on Wednesday in Dublin.

According to this it's still to be decided. I hope we do get Australia and South Africa though. Plus we'd at least have a chance of beating Holland.

Its not a given that Ireland are in that group. It depends on who finishes 1st and 2nd in the ICC Trophy, to be decided tomorrow.

Quite right DMC. After we lost the final today here's the groups

Group 1: Australia, South Africa, Scotland, Holland
Group 2: Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, Bermuda
Group 3: New Zealand, England, Kenya, Canada
Group 4: Pakistan, West Indies, Zimbabwe, Ireland

Ireland in the group of Death!

I'd fancy our chances against Zimbabwe..... if they are still in turmoil. The West Indies are one place above Zimbabwe in the one-day rankings and they are in turmoil themselves.... and if Inzy is still there for Pakistan.... we could top that group!! :D

The chances of that happening at the World Cup are around about the same as Elvis jamming with Sid Viscious and Lord Lucan on percussion. :)
