    Hey...

    Anyone ever been to Croatia?

Was thinking of heading over for a week, anyone know the nicest resorts and the cheapest travel company to deal with?

    Any info appreciated...

    I strongly recommend it!
Especially along the Dalmatian coast: Zadar, Sibenik, Split and finally Dubrovnik!
It's dreamy and I've never had such a great holiday in my life than last year in Croatia and I'm going there again this year.

    Great Country !

IMHO, Concorde Travel and Croatia Tours are quite good.

Packages not cheap, as flights are not discount carrier, but worth every penny.

If going for 2 weeks, I'd recommend staying 1 week in Dubrovnik area (Cavtat) and one week on the Makarska riveria (Brela).

    GO !

How much did your packages cost? (if you dont mind me asking)

Was thinking about a week at the start of Sept.

Trust me, if the packages are expensive, you can quite easily sort out your accommodation over there.

Flights will be about €220-€300 with Aer Lingus, so if you are getting a package for approx €550-€700 for a week, then if the hotel and location is nice, then it's OK.

You can get self catering in a nice appartment for approx €25-€35 a night over there, anywhere with the 'sobe' sign.

Check out http://visitcroatia.proboards21.com/ and ask as many questions as you like there, you will get plenty advice !!

I strongly recommend you hire out a car for a few days, there is sooooo much to see and do, it is well worth it. Rates are €40-€50 per day.

Been living there for about 28 years, not a bad place :)

With the cheap Aer Lingus flights to Dubrovnik it's worth seeing if you can "roll your own" for less than the package holidays.

Most of the accommodation on the adriatic coast is private, hotels are fewer and more expensive. A lot of the locals live off the land and the money they get from renting rooms or apartments.

There have been several attempts to provide an online service for booking private accommodation, and IMHO this is the most successful: http://www.adriatica.net

It's also worth doing your research on the area on the Croatian tourist board site: http://www.croatia.hr

September is also the time when things quiet down, so finding accommodation on the spot should be easy - just going down to a local tourist office in the town where you want to stay should sort you out.
