After months of searching, reading and viewing - found the Plasma that Im going to buy:

    hitachi%2042pd7200-1.jpg

Every magazine and internet review is raving about it.

I just wanted to post here to see if anyone else had bought one here in Ireland and if so - how much did they pay.

After some research - I found that I couldn't get some websites to deliver to me in Ireland and was checking with Harvey Norman in Dublin and they quoted me a whopping €4,499 for this TV, so I got onto Richersounds and I can drive up to Belfast and pick up this beautiful machine for (€2,898)£GBP1,995

So this post is a question to anyone that has purchased one and how much did they pay and also some information for people in that you can save a fortune when looking around. Think outside the box.... as people say.

Also - what was the delivery charge from www.tvandvideodirect.co.uk ??

    Thanks in advance.

What is the story about warranty and support etc. with buying up north or online from uk. Do you still have the same cover and are you liable for all shipping charges (which could be quite steep) for any returns? Its a bit worrying handing over that sort of money for something that could give problems.

    I'd like to know people's thoughts/experiences

I never buy from anywere except online from the UK. You support would be with the company direct like Pioneer, Panasonic or Hitachi so no hassles there. God bless EU fair play trade rules

Maxwell, were you the same guy who was looking at the LG RZ42PY10?
If so is the Hitachi you bought better than the LG RZ42PY10?
And is there much difference between the Hitachi 42PD7200 and 42PD5200 cause tvandvideodirect.com are selling the 42PD5200 for £1464 which they say is a saving of £1000.

Hi There PWEI, yes I was looking at the LG RZ42PY10 at the beginning as I saw it in its full glory on display in Harvey Norman's and I was blown away with the quality, but since then I have come accross the Hitachi and everything about it is screaming out for me to buy it. I am actually driving up to have a proper viewing with my own DVD's - Sky etc to make sure its the one for me - I will be poping by Harvey Norman first to have one last viewing of it before I get to Belfast (Richer Sounds) to then make up my mind.

This has certainly been a very, very difficult decision for me to make, but the reviews of the Hitachi have been amazing in every magazine I have read.

The LG is €3,000 in Harvey Norman, and the Hitachi is €2,800 when I convert from Sterling and seems to have the better inputs, pq, etc. Also I have yet to see any "proper" reviews of the LG and Im only going by what I saw, but they do say that you should just trust your eyes and not the reviews - hence my visit to Belfast to check out the Hitachi.

As for your question re: the PD7200 and the PD 5200 - yes they are definitely different and not really in the same league (as per views of others - check avforums.co.uk for really good opinions - far better than mine)

I've been thinking of getting a HiDef LCD or Plasma for some time now, but recently have decided that maybe rear projection DLP might be a better option. Anyone else looked into these, or know anywhere in Dublin where I could demo one?

    Hi

I actually bought the Sony DAV-sb300 tall boy speakers first and they have been waiting in the box for a few months now as I have been waiting on my conversion to be done and to have the plasma bought - I have my projector waiting also and am hoping this all falls into place real soon!

    my speakers:

    826000.jpg

Looks over "separate's" quality Im afraid

Just love the look of them....and the easy part of just plugging them in. 650 WATT is enough for now!.......also have it modified multiregion!!

As I gain more info re: home cinema, I will then purchase the real quality separates/surround sound/dvd player etc
