FreeBSD thinks I have an American keyboard, and I don't like that

    As said in title, my FreeBSD 4.3 RC3 system believes I have an American keyboard. Anyway I can change this?

    No, it's grand in X, but not at the physical terminal prompt.

    X has it's own keyboard mapper - it's the terminal I have to worry about.

    Yeah, use /stand/sysinstall for it.

    Configure, keyboard, or something like that, sorry, not at my freebsd box. (*oh the shame*)

    The English one is the same as the Irish.

    I am using linux, but this might work for you. In the XF86Config file (in /etc/X11 ?) uncomment the line XkbLayout "us" and change it to "gb" (I am not sure if it knows about irish keyboards. I think british ones are the same). Also change the "us" in XkbKeymap "xfree86(us)" to gb. That worked for me anyhow.

    kbdmap, though as others have said you can use sysinstall, which just runs kbdmap.
