    Really nice car Cyrus!
    Best of luck with her.

I'm currently looking at cars from 99-02 and would be sorely tempted by a 156 except that........ oh sorry, no anti-alfa comments ;):)

Still a good looking car but I don't think it improves on the 156 - the nose is too fussy and too prominent for my taste (as someone pointed out elsewhere it looks like the car swallowed a wasp :))

    @Cyrus
Lovely looking car, esp. with those alloys.
Kind of shows that the 156 doesn't need any bits (side skirts, spoilers, etc.) tacked on to improve it.
I see you've got rid of the 'lexus-style' rear lights (good move to be honest).

I would have been wary of mileage that low on a 6 y.o. car, but it looks genuine - the drivers seat wears quickly on high mileage cloth cars. My brother had a '98 1.8 with leather. Interior was as-new when he sold it with 98k on the clock, despite having 2 children.

The pain in the ass with the wood is that the veneer comes off the gear lever (if you're married)

Any problems to date? Have you had the timing belt replaced? Most of my services were done in Grandon's in Cork - they're the importer for Alfa in Ireland. I also used Alasta Autos with some success, but they can be pricey. There are non-dealer specialists, Ti autos I think is one of them.

    Good luck with it.

@ bmoferral i think you're mistaking mine with clownmans he has the lexus lights, not really my thing to be honest im more of a subtle look man myself

@ds20 it was a second car owned by an older couple i think the lady literally drove it to work every day (20 mile round trip) and that was it, the interior really is like new :)

no problems as such yet, the only one thing is that im not 100% happy with the cars handling but im almost 100% sure its due to the rubbish tyres i have (when i saw handling i dont mean im hammering it its just a bit twitchy in a straight line at say 120km/h)

Timing belt was done at 45000 miles, i had her serviced at 51500 by Gerry @ Ti just for peace of mind, he reckins she is running perfectly!

    OI! :D

As I said, they grow on you. I didn't like them either but everyone else does.

People who don't know the car think it suits - it does blend well. But people who do know the car and esp own the car are used to/ like thier own blocky red yokes. :D

Good move on the side repeaters though. BM did you ever get them for yours?

And dont mind the wallet comments - mine is still going very strong at 95k miles. Hasn't given be a bother in 1 and 1/2 years. And that's from 69k when I bought it from a fleet management company.

good job Cyrus - I like the wheels a lot.

@bmoferrall, the standard side skirts actually look good on the alfa 156, they blend in very well and don't look tacky at all - check out the pics of mine in my sig.

Not yet. I didn't want to change the car while it was for sale - maybe in the future.
I might raid the piggy bank later in the year for some mild performance mods though (suspension kit, lsd, sport air filter, Carbon fibre intake, maybe even a ecu upgrade) courtesy of AutoDelta London. A fellow GTA owner has had all this and more fitted to his car and claims it completely transforms it (I hope to get a passenger ride in his car around Mondello soon to confirm this).
(I will only do this if I decide to keep the car long term.)

I agree eoin (I guess the word 'tacked' was ill-chosen). I had them on my last 156 and swore by them at the time.
My point was really that the 156 in original form looks great anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,470 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

i think the skirts look great myself and really do a lot for the car, however its not worth the extra expense to me, im delighted with the wheels nice to have something a little bit different :)

altho id like clownmans 18" tooras better ;)
