Lads I'm gonna install FreeBSD tonight on a hard drive with win2k on it.. what's the deal with non-destructive repartitioning? Does freebsd supply a tool? NTFS file system..

You could try FIPS, or GDISK. I think FIPS is the one that comes with most linux distros, so it might be better/more reliable.

The sad thing about this post is that Logic1 and Regi live in the same house, and I live there too. And I swear, if Logic starts whining about his PC crashing again I'm gonna beat him with the FreeBSD 4.3 CD I copied for him.

What about Partition Magic 6. I'm using it this very moment on W2K/NT4 box to resize 8G partition with W2K to 4/4G to stick on RedHat7. I assume this will work for FreeBSD also?

I believe freebsd has it's own partition resizing tool. Check out the tools/ dir on the cd.

BSD's boot manager is nice, you just install it and it does everything itself, no configuring like LILO, it detects what you have and gives you a list, end of story.

FIPs and most other partition resizing tools do not handle NTFS. Perhaps Parition Magic (later versions) do, I dunno. Once you've resized the partition you don't need to worry what OS you're installing, just create the new partition from that OS's install program and it'll have the appropriate partition ID.

Coincidentally you may also need to **** around with NT Boot to work Win2k with other OSs
