No offense Logic, but he sounds like a ****er too. smile.gif

You know an American will call someone a communist as an insult without actually knowing what the word means.

If you wanted to stop some Americans using the product just say "It's being programmed by commies!"

Here's a good place to start reading (and follow the links off). Although I guess I'm preaching to the choir with you logic. wink.gif

Some of the comments are a lot better then the story. smile.gif

I wont attempt to criticise the authors assertions, nor rebuke or disprove his sources. Instead I'll say this.

Open Source is a movement that allows programmers to produce high quality, open, tools available to others for nothing. It is clearly a success: Most users will say that Linux, for instance, is a more solid, better designed, operating system than Windows 9X. Yet any user can obtain it for no charge, and any user can contribute to it, by releasing modifications they themselves have made to make it better, or by creating entirely new add-ons to help other users.

If this is communism, then show me a communist candidate for office, and I shall vote for him or her. If you are seriously trying to claim that a label applies to a positive force for good, for the encouragement of the sharing of ideas and solutions, for producing new tools that are better than any other economic system has produced to date, then be careful, for you may convince people, not that the system is bad because of the label, but that the label is good, because of the system.</font>

A poorly written article and possibly dangerous (if people were to follow it).

    1. Linux has pretty much shot down any FUD and doesn't require FUD to survive.

    2. There is no way to create a monopoly (to my knowledge). At worst you can do is fork the code and if people know what your up to they will no longer support your distro.

I would recommend reading the history/motives behind open source, Linux and GNU license before making comments about the news.
