I dont suppose you'd consider writing one up in java?
You'd be gambling a little that they'd improve the 3D support (javas).. but that seems to be one of their focal points atm.

At the moment, java is as fast as C++ imho for system functions, but a bit slow on the gfx side.

Never actually did Java myself. Haven't any idea what percent of games are coded in Java if at all any? C and C++ seem to be the standard and again I wouldn't have any idea of the speed of Java in comparison to C for system functions. It may just be that every one coded games in c++ so people decided that was the route to go. If Java are improving their 3d support I'm sure it'd be a viable option.. Anyone have a Java versus C++ site knocking about?

I just got the July edition of Linux Format and they've started a series of tutorials on programming games on linux in SDL and OpenGL which looks like it might be quite good if you're interested. It seems to be dealing with the vector based triangles and things for graphics or something! i haven't read it yet.
