    For anyone near border.
Sainsbury Newry have Tennants Lager, a case of 24x 440ml cans, 4.0%, at £9.99 a case( less than €15) reduced from £13.99.
Not a bad price and the beer is ok.

newry is great if you have the time to head up and get a load of shopping, youll cover the cost of petrol with a few boxs of beer.

Picked up a crate (24 bottles) of grolsch and becks, both brewed in their original countries, not under licence crapola for STG12.99 and 11.99, less than 20 euros. Got them in sainsburys Armagh.

We usually go to Newry and Sainsbury's. What's Armagh like for shopping and is the Sainsbury's there as big as in Newry? h

I'd also be interested in knowing this and after a recent trip to the UK it really brought home how much cheaper the supermarkets are.

I live in Navan to going to armagh would not be too far does anyone know if there is an asda there?

I was up in Armagh last weekend and got a few good bargains in the Sainsburys offy. 24 x Stella bottles for £9.99 (about €15), 6-bottle cases of wine (good chardonnay and previously a good merlot reserve) for £19-ish (about €30).

I go there regularly and although it's not as big as the Newry one, you don't have the queues like you do in Newry. And parking is nowhere near as stressful as it's in a much smaller shopping centre (more an arcade really). When they have offers on, they are usually very good (see wine above) and you can always ring them to ask what the offers are for the week, very helpful indeed. Their food section has a good selection of Indian dishes too.

There's no Asda or Tescos there (at the moment). If you are still after drink bargains, there's a Curleys beside the bus station, they have a good selection of wine at a good price, all the usual names for a good bit less than down here. To get there, when you're on the Mall go past the courthouse going north and it's about 100 yards on further.

    B.

That german stuff at 8.6% for €1.99 should have a wee bit of a kick in also.

I head up there pretty regularly myself too, the O'Neills outlet across from Sainsburys always has good deals too.
Sainsburys in Armagh is definitely better, half the shelfs in Newry can't be re-stocked quickly enough due to the amount of customers.
Jonesboro market on a Sunday morning (just left off main Belfast road at Carrickdale hotel) always has something decent to offer aswell.

Asda have bought into Northern Ireland - expect them to buy into the south soon. - Dunnes Stores

And forget the denials by the Dunne family, asda will be offering them a kick ass price.

should checkout sainsbury's in lisburn (just outside of belfast), it's in a retail park. it's a brand new modern shopping center.
we found it great for the 2 for 1 deals on groceries and we think it was a bit cheaper than newry in general, the drink deals are pretty much the same.

Premium pils in lidl is really good beer.
    6x500ml bottles for 6.99!!!

Once you go Bergadler Pils in Lidl (4.9%), you'll never go back.
Taste, volume, Reinheitsgebot, it's got the lot.

    6.99 for 6 500ml and they're bottles!

btw, that Stella 660 in Lidl is
    a) Brewed in the UK
    B) Overpriced - Tesco have Leuven-brewed cheaper for the 330's
